5.1Connecting the apps

Local, Cloud and Auto connection modes, signing in, approving a new device, and the built-in demo.

The Veltnova app is available for Windows, Android and iOS. All three show the dashboard you deployed from the Configurator and use the same sign-in screen.

#The sign-in screen

At the top is a selector with three modes:

ModeWhen to use it
LocalThe device is always on the building's network, for example a wall-mounted tablet or a PC. It talks directly to the gateway.
CloudThe device is away from the building, or the building has no suitable local network. It signs in through the Veltnova cloud.
AutoA phone that moves around. It tries the local gateway first and falls back to Cloud automatically.

The fields are:

  • Gateway IP address: shown for Local and Auto. Enter the gateway's IP address on the site network. The port (3127) is fixed. There is no address field for Cloud.
  • Username and Password: the app user you created in the Configurator under Server > Gateway > Users. The same username and password work in all three modes.

Click Connect. While a saved session is reconnecting you will see Connecting... and are not asked for credentials again. Changing modes normally does not require signing in again either.

#Approving a new device

For security, each app user is bound to one approved device. The first time a device signs in with a valid password, it is not let in. The app shows:

Device pending approval - approve it from the gateway's Clients page, then try again.

To approve it:

  1. Open the gateway console and go to the Clients tab.
  2. Find the device in the Client Devices table. It shows a six-digit Code.
  3. Tick Active on that row (and pick the right username if asked).
  4. Try signing in again on the device.

To revoke a device, untick Active. The X button deletes the record entirely.

#Settings inside the app

Tap the gear icon in the header for Settings:

  • Account: the signed-in user.
  • Gateway: the Connection Mode, the Gateway Address (local mode), Sign Out (Change Connection) and Try Demo.
  • Intercom: the registration status. For local connections it shows messages such as SIP 1001 registered., or No SIP extension assigned to this user.
  • Audio: a speaker test.
  • Display sensors and Display LED: only on a Veltnova wall display that has them. See Veltnova wall displays.
  • About: app, platform and version.

The header also shows a small phone icon for the intercom: grey with a line through it means the user has no SIP extension, green means registered, red means not registered, and it shakes when a call is ringing.

#Try demo

The first screen has a Try demo button. It opens the app with sample data. No gateway, network or account is needed, and nothing is saved. It is the best way to show a customer what the app looks like. Leave it from Settings > Exit Demo.

#Platform notes

  • iPhone and iPad ask for permission to use the Local Network the first time. Allow it, or the app cannot find the gateway.
  • Android asks for microphone permission when the first intercom call is answered.
  • Calls and ringing: with a local connection the app registers with the gateway and rings when the intercom is called. With a cloud connection, the app only learns about a call while it is open.
  • Windows is the best fit for a wall-mounted panel PC.
