FAQ

Short answers to the questions installers ask most.

#Getting started

#What do I need to set up a site?

A Veltnova gateway on the building's network, the Configurator on a Windows PC, and the app on the customer's devices. The Quick guide walks through the whole process.

#Can I design a project without a gateway?

Yes. The Configurator works on its own: you can create projects, build pages and save them without a gateway. You need the gateway only to deploy and to test against real devices.

#Can I show a customer the app without a gateway?

Yes. The first screen of the app has a Try demo button that opens the app with sample data. No gateway, network or account is needed, and nothing is saved.

#Where are my projects saved?

As .shp files in Documents\Veltnova Projects on your PC. Export saves a copy anywhere you choose, and Import in the Project Manager loads a project from another PC.

#Network and ports

#Which ports are used?

PortUsed for
3127/TCPThe gateway console, project deploy and the local app connection
5060/UDPSIP, for the intercom
8889/TCP and 8189/UDPRemote camera viewing (forward these for Local + Remote)

#Does the gateway need to be reachable from the internet?

No. For use away from the building, choose the Cloud connection type: the gateway connects out to the Veltnova cloud and the apps go through it. Port forwarding is only needed for direct remote viewing (Local + Remote).

#What is the difference between Local, Cloud and Auto?

Local talks directly to the gateway, Cloud goes through the cloud relay, and Auto tries Local first and falls back to Cloud. Use Auto on phones. See Connecting the apps.

#Devices and protocols

#Does it support Modbus TCP?

The Configurator currently supports Modbus RTU (serial, over RS485 or RS232). See Modbus devices and datapoints.

#Can I import my ETS project?

Export the group addresses from ETS as a CSV and import that file in the KNX engine settings. The Configurator does not read .knxproj files directly. See KNX basics.

#Which door stations work with the intercom?

Any SIP door station that can register with a username and password and offer G.711 (PCMU or PCMA) audio. The Configurator lists device types such as 2N, Akuvox, Fanvil, Grandstream, Hikvision and Dahua, and a generic option. See Intercom and door stations.

#Can the app open my gate from the intercom call?

Not through the SIP call. Bind a Switch or Action Button to the gate's KNX relay and place it beside the intercom object.

#Users and devices

#A user cannot sign in on a new phone. Why?

The first sign-in from a new device must be approved on the gateway console (Clients tab, tick Active). Approving a device also revokes any other device that user had. See Connecting the apps.

#Can two phones share one user?

Not at the same time. Each user is bound to one approved device. Create a user for each phone or person.

#Can the same login work locally and over the cloud?

Yes. The same username and password work in Local, Cloud and Auto, so switching modes does not normally ask for credentials again.

#How do I change an app user's password?

Edit the user in Server > Gateway > Users in the Configurator, then deploy the project again.

#Deploying and updating

#Why does Deploy fail?

Most often the gateway address is wrong, the PC is on another network, or the deploy token is missing or out of date. The Deploying page lists every message and its fix.

#I changed a setting in the Configurator but nothing changed on site.

Deploy again. Also check that the component the setting belongs to is Enabled in the Server tree.

#How do I update the gateway software?

From the gateway itself. The gateway looks for new versions by itself and shows a bar at the top of its console when one is available. Click Update now and confirm. See Updating the gateway software.

#Support

#Who do I contact for help?

Search this wiki first, then open a ticket in the support portal. Include the gateway serial number, the Configurator and app versions, and what you expected to happen.

Still stuck? Open a ticket from the support portal and mention the page you followed.
