3.34Popup

A page that opens as a window over the current page when a button targets it, with its own objects.

A Popup is a page that opens as a window over the page you are on, instead of replacing it. You design it like any other page, put objects on it, and open it with an Action Button set to Open Panel/Page. The window has a title bar and a close button.

#When to use it

Use it for content that should appear on demand without leaving the page: a gate camera next to the lights, a set of scene buttons, a small control panel. Use a plain Page when the content deserves its own tab.

#Creating a popup

  1. Right-click the canvas and choose Add object > Popup.
  2. In Create Popup, enter a name (default Popup) and the Window size, as a percentage of the screen (default 70, from 30 to 100), then click Create.
  3. The popup is added to the panel as a page, marked with a small window icon on its tab. Place its objects on it as on any page.

You can also turn an existing page into a popup, or back: select the page in the Project tree and switch Open as a popup on or off. Window size appears while it is on.

#Opening it

Add an Action Button, choose the command Open Panel/Page on One Client (or on Every Client), pick the panel, and then the popup. The popups of a panel are listed with "(popup)" after their name.

#Properties

PropertyWhat it does
Label (page name)Shown in the window's title bar.
Open as a popupOn: the page is left out of the page tabs and opens as a window. Off: it is a normal page.
Window size (% of the screen)How much of the screen the window takes. 30 to 100, default 70.
Font Type, Font SizeSame as any page. They style a normal page's tab, so a popup does not use them.

#How it behaves in the apps

  • The window opens over the page you are on, with a dimmed background. The page underneath keeps running.
  • Close it with the x button, by tapping the dimmed background, or with Back (Android).
  • The objects inside work as usual and show live values while it is open.
  • A button inside the popup that opens a normal page closes the popup and goes to that page. A button that opens another popup replaces the first one.
  • A popup is never the landing page, and never a tab of its panel. It is laid out like the other pages of its panel and scaled to fit the window.

#Example

A gate camera that opens over the Lights page:

  1. On the panel's pages, right-click and choose Add object > Popup. Name Gate, Window size 60. Add a Camera object to it, large enough to fill the page.
  2. On the Lights page add an Action Button, text Gate, command Open Panel/Page on One Client, panel Home, page Gate (popup).
  3. Deploy. Tapping Gate shows the camera in a window over the Lights page.

#Tips and common problems

  • The popup does not appear in the page tabs: that is intended. Open it with a button.
  • The button opens the panel instead: the button is set to a normal page. Pick the page marked "(popup)".
  • The window shows a lot of empty space: the whole page is scaled into the window, so spread the objects across the page or lower Window size.
  • Open Popup commands in the action list: the older Open Popup commands (with a popup id) are still not run by the apps. Use Open Panel/Page with a popup page.
