3.22Weather
A weather tile that shows the current conditions for the project location, fetched by the gateway.
The Weather object is a tile showing the current temperature, the sky condition, and optionally humidity, wind and today's high and low. The gateway fetches the weather for your project's location from the free Open-Meteo service every 15 minutes, so there is nothing to bind and no account to create.
#When to use it
Use it on a home or lobby page to show the outside weather. For readings from your own weather station on the KNX bus, use an Analog Value instead.
#What you need first
- The project location: Latitude and Longitude under Server > Gateway. The same location drives the sunrise, sunset and prayer times. Without it the tile shows "Weather unavailable".
- Internet access on the gateway. The gateway asks Open-Meteo directly; the apps never contact it.
#Properties
| Property | What it does |
|---|---|
| Label | Name of the object. It is shown under the weather when Show Label is on. Default Weather. |
| Show Label | Show the Label under the weather. On by default. |
| Temperature Unit | Celsius (default) or Fahrenheit. The gateway reads Celsius; this only changes what is shown. |
| Show Details | Also show humidity, wind speed and today's high and low. On by default. Turn it off for a compact temperature-only tile. |
| Width, Height, Position X, Position Y, Size % | Placement. A new Weather tile is 220 by 110. |
The tile on the Configurator canvas shows example values; the real ones appear once the project is deployed.
#How it behaves in the apps
- The tile has a blue day background and a darker night one, switching with sunrise and sunset at your location.
- The icon follows the condition: clear, partly cloudy, cloudy, fog, drizzle, rain, snow or thunderstorm.
- Until the first reading arrives, or when the gateway cannot reach the internet, it shows "Weather unavailable" and
--. Earlier readings stay on screen when a later refresh fails, and the gateway retries after five minutes. - It works the same on the local network and through the cloud relay, in the Veltnova client (Windows, Android and iOS).
- It cannot be tapped.
#Example
A weather tile in the top corner of the Home page:
- Set Latitude and Longitude under Server > Gateway and deploy.
- Add a Weather object. Label
Dubai, Temperature UnitCelsius, Show Details on, Width260, Height120. - Deploy again. The tile shows the temperature, condition, humidity, wind and the day's high and low.
#Tips and common problems
- "Weather unavailable": the project has no latitude and longitude, or the gateway has no internet access. Check Server > Gateway first.
- The temperature looks a few degrees off: it is the forecast model's value for the coordinates you entered, not a reading from a sensor at your house. Use an Analog Value for a local sensor.
- A new Weather object shows no data right away: the gateway fetches as soon as the project is deployed, but give it a few seconds.
